How To Add Wax Powder For Coatings And Inks
Wax is used as an additive for paints and inks. Its characteristics are simple to use. After the paint is applied, due to the volatilization of the solvent, the wax in the coating precipitates, forming fine crystals, floating on the surface of the coating film, and plays a variety of roles in improving the film performance. In addition to high-molecular mineral waxes, natural waxes are rarely used in paints and inks, and instead they are high-molecular waxes and their modified derivatives. They can give the coating a good resistance to water, heat and moisture, scratch resistance, matting, anti-smudge, and a good feel, their scratch resistance is not reach the pigment extinction. As an ultrafine powder, wax powder should be widely used in coatings, inks, plastics and other industries. It mainly plays the role of improving scratch resistance, increasing hand feel, and anti-sticking. 1. Temperature control: Low molecular weight PE or synthetic wax, due to the extremely fine powder distribution in it, will soften at high temperatures, and even aggregate and not easily disperse. Therefore, it is recommended to control the stirring temperature below 50 degrees Celsius during stirring, especially in summer. 2. Adding time: Wax powder can usually be added at any time, but for extrusion type mixing devices, it should be added at the last extrusion as much as possible. First, mix 20%-30% of wax powder with 70%-80% of solvent or resin into wax slurry, and then add it according to the required proportion. 3. Adding method: First stir at a low speed, then sprinkle the wax powder in small batches. After all the wax powder is added, increase the stirring speed to 1200rpm and stir thoroughly until it is completely dispersed and mixed. Pay attention to temperature control at all times during stirring. Wax Powder for coatings is mainly added in the form of additives, and the general addition amount is about 0.1%-3%. The specific type of wax powder and its addition amount are selected according to the type of resin used in the actual formula and the final performance to be achieved. The performance mainly refers to the appearance, touch and other physical performance requirements.\
